Savannah's Afghan

I've been busy, but I just have a lot of projects going on that I cannot post about until their recipient receives them. But, one thing I have been working on are afghans for my kiddos. After I made the one for my niece, my kids both said they wanted one.  Savannah has asked for a rainbow one. I decided to do individual granny squares this time, and was all set to do each color of the rainbow for each square, but she picked out this variegated color yarn, so that's what I'm using.

When I went to my Crochet/Knit group, I was asking about binding it together so that it had some pizazz..  There really wasn't an easy way. I wanted to use black to make her yarn stand out. It looks to me like each square threw up color! Anyway, the group leader found another square idea in a book and I'm going with that. So, with no more further ado, here's  a sneak peak.....

The top one is a close up on the secondary square design.
The second one is first go at how it will look
pieces together. Doesn't it really make the colors pop?

This is as far as I've gotten as of June 1st, 2012. I really love how it is coming together!
